What a fantastic set of pictures from John. Many thanks to him and I hope that he can find time to send us some more later.

This is Joe Richards my uncle posing by Eddie Asling’s first stock car outside the garage where he worked in Crayford around 1963.This F2 is a Model Y Ford with twin rear tyres, which were deemed illegal on the night of his first race and had to be removed.

This is Eddie. The twin rear tyres are much clearer in this photo.

This is my dad Jack Richards ( and his mechanic on the right ) next to his garage sponsored 1935 Model Y Ford. This was taken at New Cross Stadium by Laurie Stott in 1962.

This is the same car as above but now being raced by my uncle Joe. This was after it was rolled at the 1963 New Cross Easter meeting. The car in front is a 1936 Ford V8 Saloon and was used as their tow truck.

This was my dad’s first car sporting a provisional number issued over the phone by Johnny Hoskins.

The rear bumper is from a Dodge lorry.

This is a Formula 1 race at Staines Stadium in 1958. Some of the stadium is still visible from the Staines By-pass.

The car on the right is a 1936/7 U.S. Coupe.

This is my dads second car (715), again a 1933 Model Y Ford racing at the 1963 New Cross Easter meeting.

From memory – 722 is George Kingsly and 730 is Johnny Allen. The BSCDA later reduced all car numbers by 100

This is my dad being spun by Freddie Funnell at Harringay. My dad is driving a 1952 E93 Ford. The rear wheels are from a V.W. Beetle, reversed to give extra width, and the home-made exhaust is facing the crowd for maximum effect ( my dad was and still is a show-off ) This was the first tarmac track in London apparently.
